Outside of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lightnin' Hopkins may be Texas's most distinctive and influential blues export. His easy, fluid fingerpicking and witty, extemporaneous storytelling are always a delight, and his performances on LAST NIGHT BLUES are no exception. The album is spare and acoustic, with Hopkins's voice and guitar accompanied by minimal percussion and Sonny Terry's harmonica. The Blues Band were formed in Britain in 1979 by Paul Jones, former lead vocalist and harmonica player with Manfred Mann in the 1960s, and vocalistslide guitarist Dave Kelly, who had formerly played with the John Dummer Blues Band, Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker among others. Also in the bands first line-up were bassist Gary Fletcher, Joness former Manfred Mann colleague, guitarist Tom McGuinness, and drummer Hughie Flint, the two latter having been the mainstay of McGuinness Flint. They originally got together just for fun, but in the process stayed together far longer th read more. The Band is the second studio album by the Band, released on September 22, 1969. It is also known as The Brown Album. According to Rob Bowman's liner notes for the 2000 reissue, The Band has been viewed as a concept album, with the songs focusing on people, places and traditions associated with an older version of Americana. Thus, the songs on this album draw on historic themes for The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, King Harvest Has Surely Come and Jawbone which was composed in the unusual. You know I went home last night Sat down on my bed and cried I went home, I went home last night, Sonny Sat down on my bed and cried Yeah, you know I was thinkin' about my little woman And at the time poor lightnin' couldn't be satisfied Lord, have mercy. You know the nightmares got on. This song is by The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and appears on the album The Paul Butterfield Blues Band 1965 and on the album An Anthology: The Elektra Years 1997. Last night I lost the best friend I ever had Last night I lost the best friend I ever had Well, she gone off and left me, oh, make me feel so bad. Well, it's early in the morning when my love come falling down for you Well, it's early in the morning, baby, when my love come falling down for you I want you to tell me, baby. Saw this wonderful band last night, 38 years on the road and still one of the best blues acts in the world. This recording though is back in 1991, and has been in the vaults since, but it was found, re-mastered and now available for purchase.
