Album

Eliades Ochoa Bustamante born 22 June 1946 is a Cuban guitarist and singer from Loma de la Avispa, Songo La Maya in the east of the country near Santiago de Cuba. He began playing the guitar when he was six and in 1978 he was invited to join Cuarteto Patria, a group founded in 1939, as its leader. Although he looks like a guajiro, and he still wears his trademark cowboy hat, his roots are in the son, and he only agreed to take on the role of leader if he was allowed to introduce new elements to the repertoire. The songs have almost an improvisational quality as the interplay between sax and guitar, African and Cuban vocalist, create some musical magic. Ochoa carries the load on this disc but it is a close partnership and colloboration between all the musicians. Artists: Manu Dibango, Cuarteto Patria. 2018 music of latin america. HTML code. Album station. The vocals are a bit hokey, yet it works. The idea to get together and record disparate material was born at a gig in France in 1996, and the studio was arranged tout de suite. Dibango plays with restraint, sinuously weaving his warm tones in, under, around and over the by-now telepathically tuned-in-to-each-other players of Cuarteto Patria. On a few tracks, he mostly lays out on others, his guitarist, Jerry Malekani, joins the proceedings, and the two of them bring in a more African feeling. The original style was traditional trova, with boleros and some musica campesina. In due course, the members and the music changed. By far the greatest change was the arrival of Eliades Ochoa.
